Introducing Syngenta, travelharbour and Golf Genius – Our Partners
Throughout the summer CMAE will be featuring its valuable corporate partners who without their support the delivery of our education programmes would be impossible. Their commitment to education is extremely commendable and we would like to feature their company’s, the products they offer to our clubs and the exclusive benefits they offer to CMAE members.
If you are considering products and services in their respective sectors we would urge you to give them due consideration as through their relationship with CMAE they understand fully how your club operates and the challenges that face the club manager. If you are not in a position to consider their products and services at the moment, but know someone who is, a positive referral is always welcome!
Please take this advantage to speak to our corporate partners as they might just have the solution you are looking for.
Who are Syngenta?
Syngenta is one of the world’s leading companies with more than 28,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to their purpose: Bringing plant potential to life.
Syngenta is also a leading player in the golf industry. From world-class scientific research and development of turf and sustainability solutions to groundbreaking participation initiatives, Syngenta is committed to its objective of ‘Unlocking Golf’s True Potential’.
Focusing on course playability, operational productivity and sustainability, Syngenta is working with club managers to introduce industry-leading initiatives including:
• love.golf: a unique female participation project based on market research and academic study
• Operation Pollinator: encouraging pollinating insects by creating wildflower areas
• Ultimate Fairways: improving turf quality while reducing labour and costs
• Water management: maintaining playability even under stress conditions
love.golf: Increasing female participation
love.golf follows on from a series of market research reports commissioned by Syngenta to promote and drive participation at club level, to benefit the long-term sustainability of the golf industry. ‘The Opportunity to Grow Golf: Female Participation’ (Syngenta, 2014), coupled with Fellow PGA Professional, Alastair Spink’s study into female golf coaching techniques provides the basis of love.golf.
The programme focuses on learning golf in a relaxed, social environment and playing on the course rather than taking a series of technical lessons on a driving range. With over 20 venues now hosting love.golf in the UK and a pilot project taking place at five golf clubs in Sweden, the programme is making strides in its aim to increase female participation.
Simon Elsworth, Syngenta Head of Turf & Landscape EAME, said: “The extension of the 2015 love.golf UK pilot programme, to up to 25 UK venues in 2016 is the logical next step in transitioning our market research into positive action in the golf industry.
“Alastair’s unique approach and academic research chimes with the findings of our female participation surveys. The purpose of extending the pilot programme, and sharing the results with the golf industry, is to demonstrate how a customer centric approach benefits business sustainability and successfully retains customers for the long term.”
Case Study: Peter Myers
PGA Professional Peter Myers, based at Dunes Golf Centre in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, first heard about love.golf when Head Coach, Alastair Spink, presented his research at the PGA’s Tartan Meeting of the Minds in January 2016.
Since then, Peter has become the first Scottish-based professional to join the love.golf team of PGA qualified coaches, in June 2016. His first five love.golf programmes have each sold out and a number of the participants have also become club members, as he explains:
“I firmly believe the future of golf is by getting the whole family playing together so this means we currently need to make the game easier for women and children to get involved in.
“I have received nothing but positive feedback from all of my love.golfers. It has amazed me just how quickly they all wanted to join the club as members and they are already organising regular games for themselves. Since starting the love.golf coaching, 11 of my ladies have joined the golf club as members!”
